Invitation to contribute to socialmediatechnologies blog

.
I have sent invitations to everyone to become a contributor (co-author) of the blog Social Media Technologies. I would like you all to contribute with tips and links to things that you know about or come across that are interesting and relevant to the course and the topic of Social Media Technologies - just like Robin did this morning when he linked to an interesting documentary about virtual worlds.

I harvested your KTH mail addresses from Bilda and I sent the invitation to everyone who has chosen a seminar group.

Do note that you need a Google account to be able to accept the invitation and contribute to the blog. It's possible to accept the invitation and tie it to another mail address (if you already have a Google account not connected to your KTH mail address).

  1. Is it a requirement to choose the main term (X) from the seminar and choose the second term (Y) from the book when writing the essay?

  2. I slipped with my thought: change "seminar" with "other literature".

  3. I had to check the assignment to understand your question. I don't know where you got "seminar"/"other literature" from. I think (hope) it's quite clear that both X and Y refer to terms from the first part of the book (Benkler), i.e for example the list of terms I provided:

    - the networked information economy
    - the industrial information economy
    - nonrival goods
    - rights-based exclusion
    - nonexclusion-market
    - nonexclusion-nonmarket
    - nonproprietary
    - limited-access commons resources
    - market-base production (systems)
    - social production (systems)
    - (commons-based) peer production (systems)
    - nonmarket production/nonmarket producers

You should thus choose a couple of terms and delve into them, relate them to each other and social media phenomena "out there" etc.

    Ok?

  4. And in this case is other literature also knowledge from social media sites (as blogs and slides on the web).

  5. Thank you for your fast answer!

So as I understand, the two terms should strictly be taken from the book. I'm thinking about one term that is not in the book but could be related to one term from the Benkler-book and the social media phenomena.

  6. Well, other literature could be pretty much anything so I guess (academic or semi-academic) blogs/slides would be ok. "Ordinary" social media sites would probably rather be the *object* of the analysis for this weeks task rather than a source of interest to the analysis. I hope you understand what I mean. I would assume that (for example) students who also study at the Sth School of Economics might have read other literature that could be relevant for this assignment.

Yes, I was thinking primarily about the terms I listed or other terms from Benkler (part 1). I would suggest that you choose two terms from Benkler and introduce "your" (hopefully) related term into your analysis and relate it to the Benkler terms of your choice.

"Thank you for your fast answer!"
I happened to be online... Don't count on always getting answers within ten minutes... :-)
